More About Mark Hunter MP

Mark with wife Lesley, Robert and Francesca

Mark Hunter is the Liberal Democrat MP for the Cheadle constituency covering Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green, Stepping Hill, Woodford and parts of Hazel Grove. Mark is also the Liberal Democrat Deputy Chief Whip (and so a Government whip in the Coalition Government).

Mark was elected in a by-election, succeeding local favourite Patsy Calton in 2005, and held his seat in 2010 with a majority of 3,272.

Mark lives locally in Bramhall and is married to Lesley. They have two grown-up children - Robert and Francesca. He enjoys reading, theatre, cinema and watching football in the limited spare time he has. Mark is also a longstanding member of the National Trust and Amnesty International.

Mark was the Leader of Stockport Council for over three years, but has spent most of his life working in the private sector. Under Mark's leadership, Stockport became the leading Metropolitan Council for recycling in the country and made huge strides forward on the "Cleaner, Greener, Safer, Stronger" agenda.

Mark is a hard working and effective community MP who gets things done for local people. Every year he helps thousands of people with their problems and campaigns on the issues that matter to residents across the constituency, such as improving transport, supporting the NHS and tackling crime. He holds surgeries at his office in Cheadle Hulme most Monday and Friday mornings, supports local charities and voluntary groups and attends many events across the area.

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
