LOCAL MP SUPPORTS NEW MAN DIESEL AND STOCKPORT COLLEGE TURBO ENGINEERING FACILITY

April 24, 2012 2:35 PM

MAN Diesel and Stockport CollegeLocal engineering company MAN Diesel (formerly Mirlees) has teamed up with Stockport College to launch a new "Turbo Engineering Room" at the college. Last Friday 24th April 2012 Cheadle MP Mark Hunter and Stockport Council Leader, Councillor Dave Goddard were special guests at the official opening of the training facility, hosted by Lynn Merilion, Principal, Stockport College, and Wayne Jones, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Aftersales, MAN Diesel & Turbo.

MAN Diesel is a major local employer based in Mr Hunter's Cheadle constituency turning over some £70m every year at its Hazel Grove base. The company, which produces diesel engines, has connections with the Hazel Grove area dating back over 100 years. MAN Diesel have developed the new facility at Stockport College to help build engineering skills in the area - an investment which will mean students have the opportunity to use the most cutting-edge technology available in the College.

Last year the company opened another new training facility - an academy at its Hazel Grove site - a £9m investment which will help local school leavers and graduates searching for employment.

Commenting, Mark said:

"I was delighted to be asked to be part of the launch event for these new state of the art facilities at Stockport College.

"Yet again the MAN Diesel team have displayed their commitment to training and development, and in doing so ensure the business continues to go from strength to strength.

"This is also excellent news for Stockport College and for students across the area who have an interest in engineering - my congratulations go to both Wayne Jones and Lynn Merilion on this successful partnership. Once again Stockport leads the way in innovation."
