LIB DEMS TACKLE SCHOOL PARKING

Local MP Mark Hunter and Cheadle Hulme South Councillor Lenny Grice are working to tackle the problems caused by school parking on and around Conway Road and Llanberris Road, Cheadle Hulme.
Mr Hunter and Councillor Grice joined with local residents on a visit to the roads surrounding Cheadle Roman Catholic Junior School last Friday (20th January). On the visit several options were suggested to ease the pressure on local residents.
The local Lib Dem team have since sent a survey to residents of the area asking what action they would like to see taken to improve the situation. Options include speed humps, more yellow lines to restrict parking, bollards to protect pavements and a 20mph zone.
Following requests from Lenny, the police and the Council's traffic wardens have been working together to enforce parking rules outside the schools, and tickets have been handed out to offenders.
Commenting, Mark said:
"For many parents, driving to and from school is the only sensible option, but there's a lot we can do to encourage careful, considerate and safe parking and driving around our schools.
"Whilst the vast majority of parents from the school act completely responsibly and within the rules, there are some people who do not act in a respectful manner - to the frustration of many local residents."
Commenting, Councillor Grice said:
"There's probably not a school in the country that doesn't have problems on the roads at the start and end of the day, and there are no miracle solutions, but I'm absolutely certain we can improve the situation."
