Paralympic athlete and former student of Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College, Sarah Storey OBE has added another 'gold' to her tally of medals - a Gold Award from the Association of Colleges (AoC). Local MP Mark Hunter attended the presentation, which was held on the Terrace of the House of Commons on Tuesday 15 June.

The swimmer and cyclist is one of Britain's most decorated female paralympians and is an inspiration to students of Cheadle & Marple Ridge.

Colin Fielden, Sarah's tutor during the time she was a student, 1994-1996, accepted the Award on her behalf and Headteacher Christina Cassidy responded on behalf of the College also read a message that Sarah had sent for Nathan Timblin, who was nominated as Sarah's 'College Twin' and who well might be competing in the 2012 Paralympics.

The party also included Geoff Hammond who informed Sarah of her A Level results when she was winning 3 gold medals at the Atlanta Games, Ange Ellison, Nathan's tutor and his parents.

Commenting, Mark said:

"I was delighted to have the opportunity to attend the presentation of this prestigious award in the House of Commons.

"The achievements of this impressive individual are quite remarkable and those at Cheadle & Marple 6th form College are rightly proud of their famous former-student.

"Although Sarah couldn't be there in person, it was a great pleasure to meet some of her close friends and current students of the college, and welcome them into Parliament."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
