HUNTER HAILS HISTORIC VICTORY FOR CHEADLE

Mark Hunter has been re-elected as the MP for Cheadle
In Thursday's General Election Mark Hunter won a hard fought campaign which saw the Liberal Democrats receive more votes in the Cheadle Constituency than ever before.
In the local elections the Lib Dems also had great success, with significant majorities in the Council wards of Cheadle Hulme South, Cheadle Hulme North, Cheadle and Gatley and Stepping Hill. In Bramhall South Lib Dem Paul Carter was a close second place and Bramhall North candidate Pauline Banham collected exactly the same number of votes as the Conservative, losing only on the drawing of lots.
Mark used his victory speech to pay tribute to his much loved predecessor Patsy Calton, who passed away from cancer shortly after her re-election in 2005. He also thanked the many hundreds of people that had helped in the campaign.
After the count, Mark said:
"It was a big, big task to follow in the steps of Patsy Calton. She laid the foundations of this success."
"I also owe a huge thank you to every single person who has supported me in my efforts to continue to serve our area. Serving this community is a tremendous privilege and I am delighted to have been elected again with more votes than ever before.
"We are in the midst of the worst economic recession since the 1930s, and we are facing the greatest environmental crisis in the history of humanity - it is vital that we have a strong voice for our area both locally and in Parliament.
"I will continue to work tirelessly to represent our area. Thank you all for your support."
