It was standing room only as 150 local residents attended the launch of local MP Mark Hunter's General Election Campaign last Saturday 27 March at the Village Hotel in Cheadle with keynote speaker Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader Vince Cable MP.

Dr Cable spoke at the event in support of the impressive contribution Mark Hunter makes in the House of Commons and praised his hard work and enthusiasm over the last five years as the Member of Parliament for Cheadle. Vince specifically referred to Mark's fight to save jobs at BAE in Woodford and his 'save the cheque' campaign.

Just 48 hours before the Chancellor's debate on TV - and after the controversial pre-election Budget - Vince Cable delivered a strong speech about what will inevitably be a key battleground in the General Election: the economy.

Commenting after the event, Mark said:

"It was a real pleasure to have such a highly valued colleague and friend visit our local area to support my election campaign.

"Everyone agrees the economy will be the overriding theme of this election and it is fair to say that in Vince Cable the Liberal Democrats have somebody who is admired across the political spectrum.

"Our commitment to delivering a tax cut to those on low and middle incomes - saving many couples £1400 a year - coupled with our honesty with the public on the spending cuts we believe are necessary to deal with the deficit show why Vince and the Lib Dems are so highly regarded on the economy."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
