Mark delivers speech to the Stockport Group of Institute of Advanced Motorists

Cheadle MP Mark Hunter was the special guest speaker at the most recent meeting of the Stockport Group of the Institute Advanced Motorists (IAM).

The group meets monthly at the Old Rectory Hotel in Stockport town centre, where members get together to discuss all kinds of motoring related issues.

Mark Hunter spoke of his experiences as an MP, with particular reference to his brief as Transport Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats. The MP detailed his views on three areas of concern, speed limits (Mark has co-sponsored legislation to seek a reduction of the default speed limits in residential areas), the drink/drive limit (Mark supports a reduction - in line with most of the rest of Europe) and uninsured drivers (Mark has been pressing the government to take tougher action). A lively exchange of views followed!

Mark also welcomed a new scheme organised by Stockport Advanced Motorists in association with the IAM, who are giving away 20 free courses in Advanced driving. On passing a simple test, drivers could be eligible for up to 25% discount on car insurance plus additional member benefits. Members can also join an elite but growing band of young drivers who hold the IAM Advanced Driving Certificate.

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
