Mark was recently visited in Parliament by students from Gatley Youth Centre

Local MP Mark Hunter has joined forces with over 150 charities and schools to support a Global Learning Charter set to launch next month.

The Charter has over 150 signatory organisations, including; Amnesty International, British Red Cross, UNICEF UK, Oxfam, Royal Geographical Society, Eden Project, WWF as well as many schools.

The Charter, organised by the Education Charity DEA, supports the idea that learning can help tackle some of the global issues that we collectively face such as climate change, intolerance and poverty.

A cross-party group of MPs have shown their support for Charter by signing an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament.

Commenting, Mark said:

"Together we can make strides to better address global challenges like poverty, climate change and racial or religious intolerance but we need to learn more about these issues.

"93 percent of school-age children feel it is important to learn about these issues at school yet 63 percent feel they do not learn enough about the wider world.

"I am delighted to sign this special parliamentary motion to encourage more people to learn more about the big global issues so they have the means to thrive in our increasingly globalised, interdependent world."

Hetan Shah, Chief Executive of DEA said:

"MPs who sign this Early Day Motion are recognising the efforts of teachers and students grappling to understand a variety of complex global issues such as climate change, market meltdowns and extremism. A just and sustainable future depends on supporting teachers in their work to foster the skills and capabilities that will meet the global challenges of the future."
