Mark's save the cheque campaign is backed by the country's leading consumer and business groups

The "save the cheque" e-petition to the Prime Minister is available now at: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/SaveCheque/

The petition was created by Mark Hunter MP and reads:

'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to save the

cheque by reminding the banks of their duty to serve the

customer - and not vice versa - and by asking members of the

Payments Council to vote against abolishing the cheque bearing

in mind the great inconvenience such a decision would cause to

Britain's most vulnerable people.'
