Cheadle MP Mark Hunter is supporting a call from The Co-operative and charity RNID, for Cheadle shoppers to value their hearing health.

Mark recently visited the local Co-operative Food Store opposite his office on Gillbent Road to encourage customers to take RNID's free five-minute Hearing Check, which helps identify whether you have a hearing loss.

With the support of its members and customers, The Co-operative aims to raise more than £2 million in 2009 for RNID. RNID is hoping to encourage everyone to check their hearing during its year as The Co-operative charity of the year. Anyone can check their hearing now by calling 0844 800 3838 or visiting www.rnid.org.uk/123 for the free online hearing check.

Commenting, Mark said:

"Many people don't realise how vital their hearing is in everyday situations until they start to lose it.

"RNID estimate that as many as one in seven of us have a hearing loss, so I am delighted to support The Co-operative and RNID in their efforts to encourage Cheadle residents to value their hearing health by taking their Hearing Check."

RNID's Chief Executive, Jackie Ballard, says: "On average, it can take someone up to 15 years to deal with their hearing loss, and in that time, a person's quality of life can be greatly reduced. We greatly appreciate the support of Mark Hunter MP and The Co-operative in encouraging people to value their hearing health and start addressing any hearing loss to avoid experiencing unnecessary isolation from friends, family and their community."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
