Mark meets regularly with local faith groups

Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has recently been busy out and about supporting local faith groups in the Cheadle constituency. Last week, he was invited as a special guest by members of the local Jain community to attend the festival of lights, Diwali, which is also celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs at the Jain Community Centre in Longsight.

Mark regularly visits local faith groups and just last week had his latest meeting with the Cheadle Muslim Association at the Mosque in Heald Green. Next Saturday morning (14th November), along with the Major and Mayoress of Stockport, Mark is attending a special civic service with the Yeshurun Hebrew Congregation at the synagogue on Coniston Road, Gatley. The service is setup to celebrate National inter faith week and also commemorate Remembrance Day and honour the members of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX).

Next week (15-21 November 2009) is National Inter Faith Week, which aims to promote good inter faith relations, increase awareness of different and distinct faith communities, and raise understanding between people of religious and non-religious belief.

Commenting, Mark Hunter MP said:

"I would like to thank members of the local Jain community for inviting me along to their Diwali celebration and giving me such a warm welcome.

"I am proud of the fact that we have an extraordinary cross-section of faith groups in the Cheadle constituency and I am proud to be a Member of Parliament for an area that is so richly diverse.

"I am delighted to support the inter-faith week initiative. It is a pleasure to join local groups to show my support and to listen to views and concerns of people of all faiths and none.

"I will continue to work hard to see that each and every person or organisation has the representation they deserve and that the diversity of our community is celebrated."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
