Mark and the Liberal Democrats are determined to see action on the environment.

Mark Hunter has joined forces with other Liberal Democrat MPs from Greater Manchester and Lib Dem MEP Chris Davies to release a letter about the critical Copenhagen Climate Change discussions to take place later this year.

The aim of the letter is to promote a powerful agreement taking place between countries for a strong solution to curb the crisis of global warming. To find out more about the Liberal Democrats' many achievements on the environment, as well as their current environmental campaigns, please go to:

The letter read as follows:

Dear Editor

There are less than fifty days to go until world leaders meet in Copenhagen to decide how to combat the global impact from climate change. Expectations are high and none more so than from developing countries like Bangladesh and Malawi. For them, as it should be for us, climate change needs to be seen as an issue of justice, equity and interdependence and in the wider context of environmental sustainability.

We want to see an ambitious, fair and binding global deal that keeps global warming below 2 degrees Celsius and that makes deep cuts in our own carbon dioxide emissions of at least 40% by 2020. Also, the UK must take a lead within the European Union to provide new funding and technology transfer to the developing world.

While we in the UK face the challenge of reducing carbon emissions to make our children's futures safer, those in developing nations don't have that luxury. Poor nations are suffering life threatening weather conditions today - something they didn't cause. We owe it to them to make the global deal at Copenhagen work for all our futures.

Yours

Mark Hunter MP

John Leech MP

Paul Rowen MP

Chris Davies MEP

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
