Moss Hey "patches up" their MP

Mark with the pupils of the Moss Hey Primary School First Aid Club
Mark Hunter, MP for the Cheadle constituency last week (17th July) visited Moss Hey Primary School to meet with their First Aid Club and see their training first hand.
Using equipment supplied by the St John Ambulance the children are being taught basic first aid techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to make a sling. The Teaching assistants giving the training, Mandy Platt and Emma Chorlton are following the training pack supplied by the St John Ambulance. Mr Hunter watched the pupils demonstrate their first aid skills, and even volunteered to have his own arm bandaged by one of the pupils to see how it is done.
Mr Hunter has backed calls in Parliament for the Government to encourage schools to include First Aid as part of the basic training that all children need for life outside school by signing a special Parliamentary Motion (EDM 5) to this affect.
Speaking after the visit Mr Hunter said, "The First Aid training these children have received is first class. A basic understanding of emergency aid could make the difference between life and death if these children were ever with someone who needed help. It's important to know how to administer CPR properly without putting yourself in danger, or making the person worse. These children now have the confidence practise these skills in real life if they ever need to.
"I'm pleased to see that local schools are training students in practical skills for life as well as more academic teaching and it's clear that the youngsters at this club really enjoy it - it's never too young to learn. Moss Hey have shown real initiative in taking this club forward with the help of the St John Ambulance and I hope that other schools can follow their lead."
