Mark is campaigning for the money lost to be returned to The Christie

Mark Hunter MP for the Cheadle constituency is supporting local residents who are campaigning for the return of £6.5 million lost by The Christie (local cancer hospital and charity) in the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander.

Mr Hunter signed the petition which is circulating across the Greater Manchester area when he visited the Cheadle Hulme Flower Show Society coffee morning, and pledged to put pressure on the Government to ensure that the money is returned in full.

To support the campaign Mr Hunter raised the issue during Cabinet Office Questions and challenged the Minster, Kevin Brennan MP, to make sure that all individuals and charities affected by the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander would have their funds returned. During the debate Mr Hunter secured a meeting with the Minister to find out why he was not doing more to help make sure The Christie receives its money back. Local Liberal Democrat MPs, Mark Hunter, John Leech and Andrew Stunell have also co-sponsored a special Parliamentary Motion condemning the decision by the Financial Services Compensation scheme not to return The Christie's money and supporting The Christie in their application for a judicial review of the decision.

Mr Hunter MP said, "The Christie does massively important work not only for the local area but as an international leader in cancer research. It's appalling that they stand to lose £6.5 million which would have been spent on treating and caring for patients with cancer.

"The Government should be actively working to ensure that The Christie isn't out of pocket because of the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander. I'm going to raise this in the up-coming meeting with the Minister and put pressure on him to ensure that the Government takes responsibility and acts decisively to make sure the money from all those individuals and charities who have lost money in this fiasco in returned to them in full."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
