Local MP to meet with Minister over refund for The Christie

Mark is working with local MPs to get The Christie's money back

The decision by the Financial Services Compensation scheme not to return £6.5 million lost by The Christie charity in the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander has been strongly criticised by Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter working closely with Parliamentary colleagues John Leech MP - whose Manchester Withington constituency is the home base of The Christie Hospital and it associated charity - and Andrew Stunell MP for Hazel Grove.

Mr Hunter has co-sponsored a special Parliamentary Motion condemning the decision and supporting The Christie in their application for a judicial review of the decision. In an earlier Parliamentary debate, Mr Hunter had already secured a Ministerial meeting having raised concern about the amounts of money charities - as well as individuals - stand to lose as a result of the bank's collapse.

Speaking after the news from The Christie was announced Mr Hunter said: "I'm appalled by this decision it just doesn't seem right to me and I will certainly be taking up the case made by The Christie - as well as others - when I see the Minister later this month.

"The Government cannot be allowed to simply wring its hands and deny responsibility. It's time they showed some leadership and determination on this issue and commit themselves to full compensations for all those - charities and individuals - who stand to loose vast sums of money because of the collapse of this bank. I will continue to press this case in Parliament whenever I can."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
