Cheadle MP Mark Hunter today opened a new Family Support Centre at Lum Head Primary School

Mr Hunter was invited by the headteacher of Lum Head Primary School in Gatley, Helen Smith, to formally open their new Family Support Centre. Lum Head Primary were recently awarded extended school status and were given a £45,000 grant to open a centre which the whole community could benefit from. While Mr Hunter was there he had the opportunity to tour the school and meet staff, parents and pupils.

The Family Support Centre, inside the school, will offer a variety of services including classes for parents and children on basic literacy skills, a parent-toddler group, a wifi café, as well as a quiet room where families could go for talk and support. These facilities would not only be available to parents involved with the school but to all families in the neighbourhood, including those who attend other local schools.

Speaking after opening the new facility Mr Hunter said: "I was very pleased to be asked to open this fantastic new centre. The facilities are excellent and will provide a really useful service for families living in the local community.

"The variety of classes being offered and the support available will I hope be taken up enthusiastically by local families especially those who learning 'on the job' about how to be parents for the first time. This centre will be able to offer information, advice and support to all families and I really encourage them to come and see what the centre offers."
