Following a visit to Cheadle Hulme Health Centre last month by Cheadle MP Mark Hunter, who had been called in by GPs and other staff at the centre to view its poor condition - Mr Hunter visited the Health centre again this week, this time accompanied by the Chief Executive of Stockport Primary Care Trust, Richard Popplewell.

Mark Hunter was fulfilling his promise to return to the Health Centre and view progress on the urgent repairs that needed to be carried out.

Mr Hunter has pressed hard for urgent action on the many problems that exist at the Health Centre, including a leaking roof and defective heating and lighting systems. He was pleased to see some progress had been made on his return but was quick to acknowledge that the real answer was a new health centre for Cheadle Hulme.

Mr Hunter, speaking after the meeting said, "I was pleased to see progress had been made on the urgent repairs, but much more remains to be done.

"There is further work planned by the PCT and I know that the whole centre is due to be replaced in the next 4-5 years. I will be writing to the Secretary of State for the extra finance needed to allow the building of the new health centre to be moved forward. All sides agree that the centre needs to be replaced and quickly - the PCT just needs the money to be able to do it soon.

I will continue to fight for better funding for our local healthcare and for the improvements to the centre to be finished as quickly as possible."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
