Mark Hunter MP

A very Happy New Year to all the residents of Cheadle, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green, Woodford, Stepping Hill and parts of Hazel Grove. I hope very much that you have had a merry and relaxing festive period, and are feeling refreshed and ready for the challenges that the New Year will bring.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the last year as your MP, representing you and our local area in Parliament. As usual my offices in both Westminster and Cheadle Hulme have been incredibly busy, answering requests and letters from local residents, and I have found it very enjoyable and rewarding to meet you all.

During the year I have been active in pressing the Government on many local issues such as better access to NHS dentists, fairer funding for local schools, and stopping funding cuts in the local police force. I have also been active on national issues such as calling for better recognition and support for our service men and women, more effective help for the developing world, and an end to high levels of graduate and personal debt.

As always one of the best parts of my job is having the opportunity to meet some fantastic people who work for the local community, for charities or as volunteers. They do such great work often giving up their time and comfort in a way that is truly inspirational. I would like to thank them here for all their hard work.

After a few quiet days of rest and relaxation with my family I am looking forward to the year ahead, particularly because of the recent changes nationally in the Liberal Democrat party. We will be starting the New Year with a new leader who I believe will be able not only to rejuvenate the party but will be able to bring together those in the UK who believe in Liberal values.

Under Nick Clegg, I and my colleagues will continue not only to raise local issue in Parliament such as getting more police on our street and completing the A555 relief road, but we will also be working to press the Government for effective environmental policies, better funding for local communities, schools and health services, as well reform of the Council tax.

Happy New Year!

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
