Local Royal British Legion Branch welcomes MP's support of their 'Honour the Covenant Campaign'

Mark is supporting the Royal British Legion's "Honour the Covenant campaign"
Mark Hunter MP for the Cheadle constituency was this week invited to meet members of the Cheadle Hulme branch of the Royal British Legion in Turves Road as part of the Legion's 'Honour the Covenant' campaign.
The Military Covenant is a mutual promise acknowledged by all services, that in return for service personnel agreeing to place themselves in harm's way for their country, the Government promises to help and support people in the Armed Forces and their families when this support is needed. This includes a call for: a just and more generous compensation scheme for those who have been killed, injured or become ill as a result of their service; a greater commitment to supporting the physical and mental health of Service people and their families; and more support for bereaves Service families.
During the visit Mr Hunter had the opportunity to meet members of the local Royal British Legion group, as well as the Royal British Legion's County Field Officer for Cheshire Mr Jeff Harrison to discuss their campaign.
Speaking after the visit Mark said, "It was a pleasure to be invited by the Royal British Legion in Cheadle Hulme to meet their members and discuss the 'Honour the Covenant' campaign with them and their concerns about the well-being of the armed forces, ex-servicemen and their families.
I am a staunch supporter of this most important campaign. The service personnel and their families sacrifice a lot for our country, and do not ask for anything to which they are not in fairness entitled to. It is appalling that we ask so much from our armed forces, and yet do not ensure that they have the equipment, medical care and support for them and their families that they deserve and need. The Government should be ashamed that with servicemen putting their lives on hold and on the line for our country that they have fallen short of what their armed forces expect of them."
Mr Hunter was also shown around the recently refurbished club premises which have benefited from substantial investment from the Royal British Legion Headquarters in London.
