Local schools celebrate excellent exam results

Cheadle constituency MP, Mark Hunter has praised local schools for this year's fantastic set of GCSE results. Records tumbled across our area with over 60% of students at Cheadle Hulme High, Bramhall High, St James Catholic High and Kingsway receiving 5 A*-C grades or more. A number of local schools had their best ever year.

"We really are fortunate to have so many excellent schools in our area and I would like to praise local young people, their parents and teachers on these really outstanding results. I know from my frequent school visits how much hard work children, teachers and school governors put in. All too often it seems that young people get a bad press, so it is particularly pleasing to have the chance to celebrate this success. They should be very proud." said Mark

The percentage of 16 year olds gaining five or more passes at A*-C grade is provisionally 60% - the highest percentage ever recorded in Stockport borough since the national publication of results. It represents over a 1 percentage point increase from 2006 which had been the previous best result in the borough.
