Local MP Impressed by B&Qs Green Record

August 29, 2007 2:16 PM

Last Thursday, local MP Mark Hunter went to meet the store manager and staff of Handforth Dean B&Q. Mark was invited to come have a look at the cutting edge 'green' measures they are taking in the store. B&Q are a leading environmentally friendly and energy efficient company.

"I was very impressed to learn of the measures that B&Q are taking to be more environmentally friendly. It was particularly fascinating to hear that all B&Qs stores are now fitted with a special lighting system that can reduce the use of artificial lighting by up to 50%. Companies have a massive part to play in reducing the country's carbon balance."

The Liberal Democrats have just revealed plans that would commit the UK to be 100% carbon free by 2050. This would be achieved by introducing 'green mortgages' to enable people to make their homes more energy efficient and shifting the emphasis from income tax to green taxes instead.

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
