MP on the beat!

July 17, 2007 1:27 PM
Police walk about

Mark out on the beat with PCSO Simon France, PCSO Amy Howe, Seargent Mick Phillipson, and Inspector Dave Turner.

Local Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter spent an evening on patrol with local police officers last week, to experience for himself exactly what it is like to be a police officer patrolling our local area. The patrol was organised through local police Inspector Dave Turner. Mr Hunter met several police officers at 7pm for the Friday night evening patrol starting outside Bird Hall Lane Police Station and moving onto Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, Heald Green, Cheadle and Gatley.

During the evening Mr Hunter saw a number of under age drinkers being apprehended and served with official warnings, as well as more serious incidents involving suspected and aggravated burglary.

Speaking after the patrol Mr Hunter said: "I have been keen to go on patrol personally for some time to see for myself what it's like and what our local police have to cope with, and I found it an incredibly valuable experience. I know from correspondence and just talking with constituents that crime and anti-social behaviour are more of a problem for residents in our area than any other issue. Because of this I wanted to go on patrol and chose a Friday night because I knew that was when I would really be able to see the police in action.

Mark out in the constituency with PCSOs Simon France and Amy Howe

I would like to pay tribute to the excellent work that our police officers continue to do across our area. I know that all of our police men and women in the area work very hard, I just wish that there were more of them, and that their job was made easier by being given adequate resources. With so few police officers in our area, they are spread very thinly; an issue which I know makes their job very difficult. All our officers do a really great job, it's just a shame there aren't more of them, which is an issue I certainly intend to continue to pursue in Parliament."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
