The Wellspring is celebrating its fundraising success

Local Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter last Sunday (15th July) joined staff and friends of The Wellspring at their summer Barbecue and open day, celebrating the successful completion of an amazing fund-raising cycle challenge.

The Wellspring is a resource centre for homeless and disadvantaged people based in Stockport town centre. The charity supports over 300 people with help and advice about with housing and health care issues, and has over 160 volunteers. The charity not only supplies food and housing, but also educational courses, information on health issues, art groups and much more.

The open day specifically celebrated the completion of a fund-raising event by Bramhall resident Peter McDonald and his friend Brian Anthony. The two men cycled 300 miles from Stockport to its twin town, Beziers in the South of France to raise money for The Wellspring centre. A feat that is even more amazing considering that Brian is blind and they travelled the whole distance on a tandem!

On the day Mark met staff, committee members and volunteers at The Wellspring including co-ordinator Pauline Cooke.

Speaking after the event Mr Hunter said: "This was a great day, despite the weather, and I was happy to be able to support The Wellspring. The work they do is invaluable to the community, helping hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people in our area.

Their staff and volunteers do a fantastic job and should be thanked for all the time and effort they put in. I would also like to congratulate Peter and Brian for their fund-raising efforts, to raise over £10,000 for the centre is a tremendous achievement and will make a massive difference to all the people who use its facilities."
