Mark at the 'drop in day' of the Local Parkinson's Disease Society

Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter this weekend (19th May) paid a visit to a 'drop in day' of the local Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) held at the Stockport Guildhall. Mark was introduced to Maria Kemp, the new specialist Parkinson's nurse and the team from the Stockport branch of the PDS.

The Parkinson's Disease Society helps sufferers of the disease and has nearly 29,000 members and 330 branches right across the UK. It provides advice to sufferers and their relatives, carers and medical professionals, as well as promoting and funding further research into the disease.

Mark is a member of the 'All Parliamentary Group for Parkinson's' which lobbies for greater provision for sufferers of Parkinson's Disease. He participated in Parkinson's awareness week and signed an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons, calling for improved NHS services for those with Parkinson's. Mark was also to keen to back the campaign to secure a dedicated Parkinson's nurse for the borough.

Speaking on Saturday, Mark said "People with Parkinson's often go undiagnosed for too long, and are not offered the support that they and their family need. To get a dedicated nurse for Stockport is fantastic news, and will lead to a real improvement in hundreds of lives."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
