Liberal Democrats stormed to victory in the local elections in the Cheadle constituency on Thursday (3rd May). The Liberal Democrats, after a hard fought campaign, not only gained another Council seat from the Conservatives but also consolidated their position in four other seats they were defending by substantially increasing their majorities. Cheadle and Gatley, Cheadle-Hulme South, Stepping Hill and Cheadle-Hulme North, remained strong for the Liberal Democrats with increased majorities in each case. Over the whole constituency seven wards in total, there was a swing to the Liberal Democrats and away from the Conservatives.

Bramhall North was gained from the Conservatives by Helen Foster-Grime a tireless and popular campaigner for the local community, despite Conservative predictions that they would hold on. It was a disastrous night for the Conservatives in Stockport Borough as a whole, where they are now reduced to having just 9 Councillors out of a possible 63. The Liberal Democrats hold 36 Council seats, Labour 15 and Independent 3.

Speaking after the results, Mark Hunter MP said: "It was a really good result on the night, all of our Councillors work incredibly hard for their community all year round, not just at election time and I am extremely pleased that local residents can see that. I want to congratulate Pam King, Paul Porgess, Suzanne Wyatt and Ben Alexander on their re-election and of course Helen Foster-Grime for a truly stunning victory. I would also like to thank local residents right across this constituency for continuing to back the local Liberal Democrat team. For our part, we will continue to work hard for the communities we represent."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
