decision day is looming for A555

Local Liberal Democrat MPs, Andrew Stunell and Mark Hunter have stepped up pressure on the Government for a positive outcome on the SEMMMS/A555 Relief Road as decision day looms.

Over the past week, government officials have requested further technical and financial details from the council about the scheme in preparation for a final decision later this year.

Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell said:

"The Department of Transport are considering the proposals as we speak, and have asked the Council for an update of all of the information and costs involved.

"We have requested a Parliamentary debate to promote the proposals with the Roads Minister."

Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter added:

"I am delighted that we are one step closer to securing Government funding for the road. People in Cheadle and the wider community have had to suffer congested roads for too long.

"We have co-operated with the government at every stage of this long process and we have left the government in no doubt about the importance of the road to the economic and social future not just of Stockport, but of the South Manchester area as a whole. Andrew and I will continue to do all we can to keep the pressure up on the government."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
