Lib Dems say Thank You

Local Lib Dems had a good night last Thursday as they held all their seats in the Cheadle constituency as well as retaining their majority on Stockport Council. Local Tories failed to make any inroads locally and Labour didn't manage to exceed even their own modest expectations.

Local Liberal Democrats held seats in Cheadle & Gatley, Cheadle Hulme North, Cheadle Hulme South and Stepping Hill (which is likely to become a full part of the Cheadle constituency). In Bramhall North ward, the Conservatives narrowly held on to the seat following a tense recount and must surely fear the worst for the ward next year where another strong Lib Dem campaign could see the Tories reduced to just a handful of councillors.

Mark Hunter MP said, "On behalf of all our candidates i would like to say a massive thank you to residents across the constituency. It was a good night for us locally when we held all our seats and came very close to winning Bramhall North from the Tories."

"We had an excellent group of candidates this year - certainly one of the strongest teams i can remember and that showed throughout the campaign. All our local Lib Dem candidates have pledged to work hard for residents all year round and i'm sure they will do just that."

"Residents raised a number of important issues throughout the campaign such as the unfair council tax, action against crime and anti-social behaviour behaviour and threats to NHS services. I will continue to take up these issues and many more alongside my colleagues on the council."

Re-elected Lib Dem councillors are:

Cheadle and Gatley ward - Cllr Brian Millard (tel: 474 3302)

Cheadle Hulme North ward - Cllr June Somekh (tel: 491 4369)

Cheadle Hulme South ward - Cllr Stuart Bodsworth (tel: 439 4554)

Stepping Hill ward - Cllr Mark Weldon (tel: 430 6534)

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
