Mark is making progress on the A555 relief road

Local MPs, Mark Hunter and Andrew Stunell met Government officials in Westminster last week to press the case for the A555 relief road. They were told that road scheme will be included as a priority in the Government Office for the North West Transport Budget that is going forward to Ministers for approval.

After the meeting, Mark said:

"We heard good news and I am delighted that we are one step closer to securing Government funding for the road. People in Cheadle and the wider community have had to suffer congested roads for too long."

Before Christmas the MPs met Roads Minister, Dr Stephen Ladyman to stress how vital the road is to the economy and people Stockport.

Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell added:

"We have successfully convinced the Government Office of the North West and the Roads Minister of the need for the road, and it is now being treated as a priority for funding.

"This is great news for includes everyone who lives or travels between Bredbury and Woodley, through Romiley, Marple, Hazel Grove, Bramhall and on to Woodford or the Airport."

The MPs are expecting a final decision on whether the Government will fund the road in Spring.

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
