Mark Hunter (left) congratulates council leader Brian Millard on an excellent result

Mark Hunter, Member of Parliament for Cheadle and former Leader of Stockport Council, has praised the local council for achieving 'four stars' in its latest comprehensive inspection of the services it delivers to local people.

The independent and widely respected Audit Commission carries out in-depth inspections - called the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) - of councils across the country and examines all aspects of the services provided by the local authority from schools through to parks and waste collection.

The 'four star' rating is the highest possible score a local authority can achieve and makes the local council one of the best in the country. In addition, the Audit Commission also judged that the council was continuing to improve and that services were likely to get even better in the future.

Mark said, "My congratulations go to Brian Millard, Leader of the Council and local Cheadle and Gatley councillor, and of course to the council's staff who do an excellent job for the local community day-in and day-out. The council doesn't always get it right but this result shows that, overall, it is being very well run indeed".

"I know that our local Lib Dem-run council is determined to deliver high quality services and value for money to local tax payers. This result demonstrates that they are heading in the right direction".

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
