A555 Relief Road - Mark Secures Meeting with Minister

November 10, 2005 11:38 AM

As our MP, Mark Hunter will work to get the vital A555 link built.Cheadle MP Mark Hunter is keeping up the pressure on government to get the A555 Relief Road delivered. In the past few days, Mark has secured an agreement from the Minister for Roads for a meeting to discuss the latest developments on the road.

The proposed A555 Relief Road includes completion of the Manchester Airport Link Road, construction of a Poynton bypass and construction of the A6 Hazel Grove bypass.

Several years work by Stockport Council has gone into detailed design work, traffic analysis and environmental assessments for the road and now the final decision on going ahead with construction lies with the government. Public opinion in Cheadle and Stockport borough overwhelmingly backs the plans.

Mark said, "I'm pleased that Minister has agreed to my request for this important meeting with me and my colleague Andrew Stunell MP. All the evidence shows that the local road network is struggling to cope with traffic volumes on our roads. We need the Relief Road to divert traffic from our suburban roads."

"I will be asking the Minster about the kind of timescales we can expect before a decision as well as probing him about how the government expects this ambitious scheme to be funded."

"The road is vital for the economic and social future of Woodford, Bramhall, Heald Green, Cheadle, Gatley, Cheadle Hulme and Hazel Grove. That's why I will be keeping the pressure up on the government to get the road delivered for local residents and businesses."

"The people of Cheadle have waited long enough for the road and they deserve answers."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
