WORK TO complete the vital A555 road link, designed to take traffic off the area's heavily congested local road network, could start in 2007 if the Government gives the green light.

If elected to be our new local MP, Mark Hunter will keep up the pressure on the Government and make sure the road gets built.

Mark Hunter said, "Working with Patsy Calton, we have made more progress in the last four years than the Conservatives made in twenty years - even though they were in Government for much of that time. As our local MP I will fight to get this vital link built."

Huge support for plans

Submission of full plans by Stockport Council to the Department of Transport last summer followed one of the most intensive public consultation exercises ever - with overwhelming support for the road locally.

The Public Inquiry is planned for early next year, subject to further financial checks. If the Inspector gives the go-ahead work should be completed within four years of the start.

A local resident said, "When Stephen Day was MP, all we ever got was empty promises on the road. Since Patsy Calton became our MP, things have started to move at long last."

Mark Hunter says, " This road is the top priority for congestion relief in the area. That's why, as local Council leader, I made sure we took the lead, working with Cheshire and Manchester to put a good scheme forward."

"We've made real progress, but it is vital that we keep the pressure up. Our area needs this road and I will fight in Parliament to get it built."

If you are a resident of the Cheadle constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
