    Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has shown his support for tackling poor diabetes care by backing a call by Diabetes UK for a national plan to improve healthcare for people with diabetes.

    Mr Hunter attended Diabetes UK's parliamentary reception for the launch of its State of the Nation 2012 report, which revealed that just half of people with diabetes are getting the basic checks and services they need to manage their condition. The charity is urging the Government to implement a national implementation plan for improving diabetes healthcare.

    MP Mark Hunter has teamed up with TV presenter and former carer Fiona Phillips to support this year's Carers Week (18-24 June) and recognise the contribution made by those people in Cheadle and throughout the UK who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled. The work they carry out is vital for their families and friends, and for their communities.

    On Wednesday (25th April) the English Lacrosse Association launched their Bid to host the 2017 Women's World Cup at a special event in the House of Commons. Cheadle MP Mark Hunter, whose parliamentary constituency includes the Cheadle Lacrosse Club, attended the special event to sign the 'Back the Bid' England flag.

    Local MP Mark Hunter has had his lung function tested to see how his result compared with someone with Cystic Fibrosis to highlight the devastating impact of the disease for Cystic Fibrosis Week 2012.

    The event, held on 25 April organised by the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, indicated to parliamentarians first hand how Cystic Fibrosis damages the lungs. The average lung capacity for an adult with Cystic Fibrosis is just 65.1% compared to someone without Cystic Fibrosis that would achieve results of 80% or more.

    Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has congratulated local Lib Dem councillors after a series of impressive results across the constituency last Thursday (May 3rd).

    The Lib Dems successfully defended three seats in the area - Cheadle Hulme North, Cheadle Hulme South, and Stepping Hill - and gained a seat from the Conservatives in Cheadle and Gatley Ward. On the night, in Cheadle constituency, the Lib Dems won 4 seats, the Conservativse 2, Ratepayers 1 and Labour 0.

    Local engineering company MAN Diesel (formerly Mirlees) has teamed up with Stockport College to launch a new "Turbo Engineering Room" at the college. Last Friday 24th April 2012 Cheadle MP Mark Hunter and Stockport Council Leader, Councillor Dave Goddard were special guests at the official opening of the training facility, hosted by Lynn Merilion, Principal, Stockport College, and Wayne Jones, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Aftersales, MAN Diesel & Turbo.

    Local MP Mark Hunter has welcomed the landmark deal for consumers agreed last week between the Coalition Government and all the major energy suppliers to make sure all households are informed of the best tariff for them and how to get it.

    Mark has been highlighting the unfair discrepancy between wholesale energy prices and the price consumers pay for their gas and electricity, and just recently met with the MD of British Gas to speak out on behalf of local residents. Mark has been campaigning in Parliament to address this unfairness, giving his backing to two separate campaigns - one led by Which? and the other by the Citizens Advice Bureau.

    Local MP Mark Hunter has presented mental health charity Mind's Stockport and District Chief Executive, Richard Wickison, with a special certificate from the Charity Commission to applaud the "Quality Standards" achieved by Stockport Mind.

    Stockport and District Mind are regularly monitored for quality assurance through the National Mind regulatory body - Quality Management in Mind (QMiM). A rigorous review of standards including; Staff's knowledge, policy and procedures, standard of services provided and service user involvement were all checked. As a national organisation Mind's Quality standards have successfully achieved endorsement by the Charity Commission.

    The Coalition Government has announced that Stockport will get an additional £2,733,000 million this year to relieve the pressure on school places.

    This is part of an additional £600m of capital spending in England this year.

    Commenting, local MP Mark Hunter said:

    "This extra money is great news for our children. Many more of them will now be able to get into their school of first choice.

    Manchester Rugby Union Football Club has secured £50,000.00 of Olympic legacy funding from Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund. Local MP Mark Hunter attended a special event to present the five figure cheque to Manchester Rugby Club President, Ewan McCray.

    The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark - celebrating the link to the Games.
