    Last Saturday 28th January Cheadle MP Mark Hunter joined with local traders and residents in Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre to celebrate Chinese New Year.

    Despite a bitterly cold afternoon, the occasion was well attended with dozens of local families coming to the village centre to join in with the festivities. Balloons were released and there was a special "Chinese Dragon" performance through the Shopping Centre. A special martial arts display and a performance from Starlight Express also entertained shoppers.

    Lib Dem Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has welcomed news that Post Offices in Cheadle have been guaranteed a secure future following an announcement by Lib Dem Business Minister, Ed Davey.

    After ending Labour's shameful Post Office closure programme, which saw more than 7100 Post Offices disappear in their 13 years in office, Ed Davey has announce a ten-year deal between the Post Office and the Royal Mail has been reached.

    Local MP Mark Hunter and Cheadle Hulme South Councillor Lenny Grice are working to tackle the problems caused by school parking on and around Conway Road and Llanberris Road, Cheadle Hulme.

    Mr Hunter and Councillor Grice joined with local residents on a visit to the roads surrounding Cheadle Roman Catholic Junior School last Friday (20th January). On the visit several options were suggested to ease the pressure on local residents.

    An extra £807,651 for social care in Stockport will mean people can leave hospital earlier and receive better care at home.

    This comes from an extra £150m announced by the Coalition Government this week to be spent on shortening hospital stays across the country during the busy winter period.

    Thanks to the Liberal Democrats, the cash can be used to access various preventative services such as better home care support, crisis response teams and specialist equipment for people in Stockport.

    Rising fuel bills are stretching household finances and people are looking for ways to save money on their energy bills.

    Help is at hand through Big Energy Week (16-21 January 2012) which is being run by Citizens Advice - and has received support from local MP Mark Hunter.

    During Big Energy Week you can get practical advice on cutting your fuel bills and help to see if you are getting all of the financial support you are entitled to. You can pick up a leaflet with tips and advice on cutting your fuel bills at your local Citizens Advice Bureau.

    Yesterday, 16th January 2012, local MP Mark Hunter signed a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons to pledge his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who died during the Holocaust.

    Friday January 27th will mark the 67th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history - and in the weeks running up to the day, the Holocaust Educational Trust places a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons, giving MPs the chance to honour those who were persecuted and killed during their Holocaust and encouraging constituents to actively speak out against prejudice and bigotry today.

  • Local Air Cadets visit Houses of Parliament

    A group of Air Cadets from Cheadle recently visited the Houses of Parliament. They were invited by local Liberal Democrat MP, Mark Hunter, who visited the squadron last year for a landmark occasion. 284 (Cheadle & Gatley) Squadron were last year's local nominee for the Lees' inspection, a trophy awarded to the best and most successful squadron in the UK. Squadron Leader Sue Gossow, based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, came to inspect the squadron and was impressed with what she saw. Mr Hunter was also in attendance supporting the work that the squadron does with local young people.

    Cheadle MP Mark Hunter is supporting The Stroke Association's campaign to encourage the nation to know more about their stroke risks.

    It's estimated that around 1600 people in Cheadle are living with the after effects of stroke, and although not all strokes can be prevented a lot can be done to minimise your risk.

    On Friday 9th December 2011, local MP Mark Hunter presented Andrew Cant and Sue Steel from Simply Books, Bramhall, with a special certificate from the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group.

    Mark had nominated them for a "Best Small Shops Competition" award for which they were shortlisted but sadly, on this occasion, did not win. Mr Hunter had previously accepted the nomination certificate on behalf of Simply Books at a special campaign event on the House of Commons.

    9 year old Austin Douglas's Christmas card design is on its way to thousands of homes right across the Cheadle Parliamentary constituency after winning local MP Mark Hunter's annual Christmas card competition. The successful design now features on the card currently being delivered to every home in the area by the Lib Dem team.
